Shirley Mae Alden (Myli), age 90, of Chester, Iowa, went home to the Lord on December 22, 2025, at Regional Health Services of Howard County, in Cresco, Iowa.

Shirley was born September 27, 1935, in Northwood, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Alice (Land) Myli. Shirley was united in marriage to Melvin Alden and to this union, they had a daughter, Shirley Diane. Her career involved working at the Cresco Care Center and at Mayo on the surgical floor.

Shirley’s hobbies included cooking, baking, canning, decorating, embroidering, garaging, and entertaining. She and Melvin really enjoyed going with Ethel and Marvin Hnley on their trips to Branson, MO.

Her Lutheran Church meant the world to her. She was a Sunday School Teacher, Ladies Aide, and she held other various positions. Shirley was a long-time member to the LeRoy Auxiliary. Her recent committee was one of the founders of the Chester Hill Veterans Avenue of Flags. She worked very hard on this project.

Shirley is survived by their only daughter Shirley Diane; grandson Timothy Duane Fechner (Morgan) and great-grandson Bryson, grandson Matthew Duane Fechner (Karissa) and great-grandchildren Tyler, Maverick, and Anna Mae; sisters JoAnn Thoe, Georgeann Galloway, and Judy Strike; brother Robert Myli; and many nieces and nephews, especially Darla, who she did a lot with, as well as Sandra, Sheryl, Dawn, Darrin, Arlynn, and Alan.

Shirley was preceded in death by husband Melvin, mother Alice, father Robert, son-in-law Tim, siblings Harley Myli, Glen Myli, Stanley Myli, Wanda Kellogg, Elaine Ness, and Jeanie Schacher.

Funeral Service for Shirley will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, December 29, 2025, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lime Springs with Rev. Jeff Jacobs officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will be at Chester Hill Cemetery.

Family asks that memorials be made to Chester Hill Avenue of the Flags.
