AUBURN, IOWA – This Northern Iowa man put his fancy Mercury Mountaineer in a ditch, then allegedly stumbled and bumbled his way to a stranger’s porch for an uninvited siesta, and after beating an earlier drunk driving charge, he’s refusing to admit any wrongdoing.

Police say that on May 4, 2025, at 5:04 AM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a male subject sleeping on someone’s porch on Maple Road, north of Auburn. This is a small township in Fayette County with a small population of around 572.

Upon investigation, it was learned that 22-year-old Stryker Long of Eldorado, Iowa had put his vehicle in the ditch and walked to the rural residence, where he was allegedly enjoying a tasty siesta.
Deputies further investigated and learned that Long was intoxicated at the time he put his 2007 Mercury Mountaineer into the ditch near the residence.

Long was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he was charged with:

  • Operating While Intoxicated, 1st Offense

  • Public Intoxication

  • Failure to Maintain Control

Long was held at the Fayette County Jail to await an initial appearance in court. Court records show that Long refuses to admit guilt, and months later, the matter is still being played out in court. He is scheduled for yet another hearing on December 17.

Records further show that Stryker was arrested by Fayette county deputies back in June of 2023 for drunk driving, but he also battled that case in court for months and ultimately authorities dismissed the charges the following April.
