Clear Lake man gets a week in jail after drunk driving and eluding police

MASON CITY – A Clear Lake man earlier jailed on a felony bribery charge after an alleged drunk driving and eluding incident reached a plea deal and got a week in jail and a hefty bill.

MASON CITY – A Clear Lake man earlier jailed on a felony bribery charge after an alleged drunk driving and eluding incident reached a plea deal and got a week in jail and a hefty bill.

Eric Vorland, age 43 of Clear Lake, was arrested by Clear Lake police and booked into the Cerro Gordo county jail back on May 15 on the following charges:

– BRIBERY CLASS D FELONY

– ASSAULT ON PERSONS IN CERTAIN OCCUPATIONS SERIOUS MISDEMEANOR

– OPERATING WHILE UNDER THE INFLUENCE 1ST OFFENSE SERIOUS MISDEMEANOR

– ELUDING SERIOUS MISDEMEANOR

– POSSESSION OR CARRYING OF DANGEROUS WEAPONS WHILE UNDER THE INFLUENCE SERIOUS MISDEMEANOR

– ASSAULT ON PERSONS IN CERTAIN OCCUPATIONS SERIOUS MISDEMEANOR

– DRIVING ON WRONG SIDE OF TWO WAY HIGHWAY

After a plea deal, Vorland (pictured at top) beat the most serious charge of felony bribery, as it was dismissed. He was guilty on most of the other charges (dangerous weapon charge also dismissed) and a judge sentenced him to a week in jail and a bill owed to Iowa courts totaling $2,302.25.

He does await a non-jury trial on December 9 for the charge of driving on the wrong side of a highway.
