May 4, 1934 – October 31, 2025

Dorothy D. Bailey, 91, of Mason City, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025 at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home.

Dorothy Darlene was born on May 4, 1934, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of James and Letha (Jump) Hedrick and one of ten children. She attended Mason City High School.

On November 5, 1960, she was united in marriage to Donavan Bailey in Glenville, Minnesota. Together they built a loving home and raised three daughters — Barbara, Nancy, and Susan — who were her greatest joy.

A gifted seamstress, Dorothy shared her talents through her career and countless handmade creations. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, and taking bus tours with friends. Her happiest moments were spent surrounded by family — her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

In later years, after moving to Grant Village, Dorothy found joy in her daily walks, friendly visits, and time outdoors. She cherished the simple pleasures of each day and the company of her neighbors and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Sue (Rod) Park; sons-in-law, Frank Pearson and Norman Sato; grandchildren, Beth Snyder, Steve (Brooke) Bailey, Rachel (Michael) Lord, and Christina (Jeff) Goebel; and eight great-grandchildren — Aaron, Myra, Colton, Caelyn, Elle, Elora, Layla, and Sam.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donavan; daughters, Barbara and Nancy; her parents, James and Letha Hedrick; and her siblings, Harold Hedrick, Buck Hedrick, Donnie Hedrick, Paul Hedrick, Lee Hedrick, Cleatus Cheney, Betty White, Marge Rasmussen, and Bonnie Williams.

In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa.
