Allen Jay Shanks, 62, of Mason City, Iowa, passed away at home on Monday, October 27, 2025. Per the families wishes there will be no services.
Allen was born on August 29, 1963 to Marilyn Jean (Nagel) Shanks and Larry Dean Shanks.
Growing up he lived in Nora Springs, Western Iowa, West Virginia, and Mason City. He graduated from MCHS in 1981.
He was known to his CB group of friends as “Hell on Wheels”.
He followed in his grandfather’s footsteps by raising bees and harvesting honey as well as gardening and dealing in scrap metals.
He later lived in Arkansas and Colorado, but returned to Mason City.
Allen is survived by Christopher and Mathew (Amanda) Shanks and grandchildren Iris, Alexander, and Mason.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, brother Scott, and mother Jean Harper.
