MASON CITY — Mason City celebrated another milestone in downtown revitalization Wednesday afternoon with a ribbon cutting for the new Delaware Avenue Apartments. The event marks the latest step in the city’s efforts to expand quality housing options and support its growing workforce.
“The new apartments add quality housing options right in the heart of downtown — supporting our growing workforce and adding new energy to Mason City’s core,” city hall explained.
Mayor Bill Schickel said the project reflects the community’s forward momentum.
“As Mason City grows, so does the need to house our growing workforce,” Mayor Schickel said. “Projects like the Delaware Avenue Apartments help ensure that the people who power our local economy can live close to where they work, shop, and play. This is how we build a strong and sustainable Mason City for the future.”
Located in the heart of downtown, at Delaware Avenue and 2nd Street SE, the Delaware Avenue Apartments add modern, energy-efficient living spaces within walking distance of Mason City’s shops, restaurants, and cultural attractions. The project complements the city’s continued emergence as a destination for outdoor recreation, architecture, and music.
“Mason City’s reputation is growing as a destination for outdoor recreation, world-class architecture, and great music,” Schickel said. “To keep that momentum going, we need housing that matches our vision—welcoming, forward-looking, and connected to the life of our community.”
Housing has been one of the city’s top priorities, and developments like this bring new energy to downtown while supporting local businesses and enhancing quality of life.
The public was invited to attend the ribbon cutting at Delaware Avenue and 2nd Street SE, held at 4:00 PM.
City officials, developers, and community partners participated in the brief ceremony, and posed for a photo (see top photo, via city hall).
The project was first announced back in March of 2024.
