MASON CITY – An attic fire at a Mason City residential apartment complex was doused by firefighters Wednesday afternoon.
On October 15, 2025, at 1:56 PM, the Mason City Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1601 6 Place SE, an apartment complex on the city’s east side. Units arrived and found smoke showing from the roof.
Crews entered apartment 1B and found fire in the attic area of the building. Fire was extinguished quickly by the MCFD from the second floor bathroom after ceiling was pulled. All occupants evacuated on their own from the building. Smoke alarms did alert the 911 caller of the fire. The fire crew cleared the scene at 4:40 PM.
Alliant Energy and the Mason City Police Department assisted at the scene. The fire is still under investigation, according to Fire Marshall Jamey Medlin.
