January 27, 1962 – July 31, 2025

Mary Edith DeMaris, age 63, of Mason City, IA passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City under the care of St. Croix Hospice. Per her wishes, she will be cremated and no services will be held at this time. Arrangements are with Fullerton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mary was born on January 27, 1962, in Hampton, IA to Gerald and Sharon (Anderson) DeMaris. She graduated from Mason City High School and then went on to attend North Iowa Area Community College and Hamilton Business College. An avid music fan, she attended countless concerts by her favorite artists throughout her youth. This includes Aerosmith around ten times and a brief, blurry appearance in the U2 live concert film, Rattle and Hum. Mary suffered a life-altering car accident at 28 years old, which left her disabled and unable to participate in many of the activities she loved.

Despite her life circumstances, Mary remained willful, determined and independent. She was inquisitive and creative. She lived life on her terms and focused on the things she enjoyed most which included: reading, knitting and puzzles. Her talent and knowledge in many different areas was admirable. Mary had many beloved cats over the years; she absolutely loved animals and made it her mission to donate to numerous animal charities.

Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Sharon DeMaris; sisters: Melissa (Michael) TeKippe, Shari DeMaris and Rachel (Micah Zirnhelt) DeMaris; half-brother, Jeremy DeMaris; half-sister, Gabrielle (Shaun) Murphy; nieces and nephews: Jessica Palmer, Erin Palmer, Jacob Palmer, Oliver Zirnhelt and Cordelia Zirnhelt and her beloved cat, Emily.

Previously departed from her life are her father, Gerald DeMaris; maternal grandmother, Martha Johnson and nephew, Matthew Palmer.

In expression of sympathy, memorials may be sent to any animal charity of your choosing.
