MASON CITY – A Des Moines man with no insurance and no license wanted for assault charges since 2023 was nabbed by law enforcement speeding through a Northern Iowa road work zone, and now the wheels of justice are firmly in motion.

The Iowa State Patrol stopped 34-year-old Cornelius Narvell Hennings, Jr. in Cerro Gordo county late in the evening of July 13, 2025. Hennings was racing through a road work zone at up to 20 miles per hour over the speed limit warning. The investigating officer determined that Hennings also had no proof of insurance and had no valid driver’s license. Further investigation showed that Hennings has bene wanted in Polk county since 2023 on a pair of assault charges and had failed to appear in court for mandatory hearings.

As a result of the stop and investigation, Hennings was arrested and taken to the Cerro Gordo county jail, where he was booked in at 11:19 PM on July 13. He awaits possible extradition to Polk county.
