OBIT: Daryl J Madison

Daryl passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN at the age of 72.

Daryl Jon Madison, the son of Edwin and Maytha (Martin) Madison, was born on October 16, 1952 in Estherville, IA. He grew up on a farm northeast of Estherville and attended school in Estherville, graduating from Estherville High School in 1970. Daryl was united in marriage to Suellen Sherling on October 16, 1971 at the United Methodist Church in Dolliver, IA. After their marriage they lived on a farm northeast of Estherville. He worked at the John Morrell Packing Plant in Estherville until its closing in 1982. He then began farming full time. In the early 1990’s, he began driving bus for Iowa Lakes Community College. He and Sue were big supporters of the Iowa Lakes Community College, especially the men’s basketball team and were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023. Daryl passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN at the age of 72. He was a member of the Dolliver United Methodist Church. Daryl also belonged the Elks Club and the Estherville Black Knights Car Club. He also was a 4-H Leader for many years and helped with the Emmet County Fair Sheep Shows. Daryl enjoyed golfing, taking his Chevelle to car shows and spending time with his grandkids and attending their events.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Madison, of Estherville, IA; son, Marquis (Jill) Madison of Fulda, MN; grandchildren, Nicole Madison of Sioux Falls, SD, Tyler (Karlie) Madison of Brookings, SD, Emily Madison of Fulda, MN and Brady Madison of Fulda, MN; great-grandchild (expected soon); 2 brothers, Jerry (Janelle) Madison of Estherville, IA and Eldon (Joanie) Madison of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces, nephews other relatives and numerous friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services

Iowa Lakes Community College Gym Estherville, IA at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 with Dale Kruger officiating. The pallbearers are Troy Larson, Jason McKinney, Katie King, Ashley Martin, Darrin Moeller, Jason VandeBrock, Dusty Wadlington and Travis Brewster. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Rueland, Chuck Tostenson, John Anderson, Bob Beaver and Wayne Mathine. Interment at Lincoln Township Cemetery Dolliver, IA.

Visitation will be Tuesday July 22, 2025 from 4 to 7 PM at the Iowa Lakes Community College Gym and one hour prior to the service at the ILCC Gym on Wednesday. The Totzke Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
