CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man is facing a felony after police investigated an injury to a child that took place on Christmas Day.

Back on January 2, 2025, Charles City police investigated an alleged incident on Christmas Day 2024 involving an injured child that was put in danger. That investigation led police to level a felony D charge of child endangerment involving injury against suspect Robert Matlock III, age 40 of Charles City. Matlock remained wanted on an arrest warrant since January 6, 2025.

On January 30, 2025, officers with the Charles City police department went to the 900 block of Kellogg Street in search of Matlock, and when they encountered him, he was placed under arrest. Matlock (pictured at top) was taken to the Floyd county jail, but soon released. He’s been given a public defender, and a no-contact order against him has been set by a judge. He awaits a preliminary hearing set for February 19, 2025.
