MASON CITY – A vote re-count held today in the Cerro Gordo county courthouse confirms that Republican Carl Ginapp is the new District 3 Supervisor, edging Democrat Lori Meacham Ginapp by three votes.

Cerro Gordo Auditor Adam Wedmore reported the results this evening, saying, “Results following the recount of the Board of Supervisor District 3 race: Lori Meacham Ginapp 3,105 votes to Carl Ginapp 3,108 votes.”

Lori Meacham Ginapp held the seat since 2022, winning the seat by only five votes over Don O’Connor, a Republican.

Carl Ginapp recently retired as Deputy Chief for the Mason City fire department.  He announced his candidacy back in January.  Yesterday, Ginapp reported via social media that the election “has been a very positive experience” and thanked his wife and others for their assistance.

Lori Meacham Ginapp leaves office after two years of service, which included an ethics investigation.

Carl Ginapp joins District 1 incumbent Supervisor Chris Watts on the board, who convincingly won re-election on November 5 to what he calls his final term in office.  District 2 Supervisor Casey Callanan has two years in office remaining in his term.

The board of supervisors is the governing body of county government.  A county supervisor’s duty is to “protect and preserve the rights, privileges, and property of the county or of its residents, and to preserve and improve the peace, safety, health, welfare, comfort, and convenience of its residents,” according to the Iowa State Association of Counties.

Cerro Gordo Supervisors make an annual salary of $56,421.85 plus benefits.
