Marlys J. Kruse, 88, of Allison, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024, surrounded by her family at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at St. John's Lutheran Church.

Marlys J. Kruse, 88, of Allison, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024, surrounded by her family at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church – Vilmar in rural Greene. She will be laid to rest at the Allison Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Woodley Funeral Home of Allison is caring for Marlys and her family.

Marlys Joan Kruse was born February 29, 1936, on the farm near Wellsburg, the daughter of Philip and Anna (Hook) Ridder. She attended Grundy County District 4 Pleasant Valley Twp. Country School near Wellsburg. On June 17, 1959, Marlys was united in marriage to Harold Kruse at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union, two children were born.

Marlys and Harold moved to the family farm north of Wellsburg in 1965. Marlys stayed at home while raising her children. Then she worked for O’s Gold seed company during the fall harvest for many years. She was a member of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church near Wellsburg for many years and when they retired, they moved back to Allison and joined the St. John’s Lutheran Church – Vilmar where she also served on the Ladies Aide. Marlys was an exceptional baker and made the best homemade pies. She and Harold enjoyed attending auctions, dancing, playing Bingo and visiting family and friends.

Marlys is survived by her husband Harold Kruse of Allison; son Gary (Kim) Kruse of Elk Run Heights; daughter Judith (Jack) Ackerson of Bristow; grandchildren: Matthew, Kristopher, Amanda, Lisa, Travis and Jamie; six great-grandchildren; brothers Robert Ridder of Oelwein and Merle (Janell) Ridder of Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her parents.
