Cop rescues struggling man from Cedar River in Charles City

CHARLES CITY - A man ended up in the Cedar River in Charles City and his insufficient swimming skills sent authorities racing to the scene.

CHARLES CITY – A man ended up in the Cedar River in Charles City and his insufficient swimming skills sent authorities racing to the scene.

According to the Charles City police department, the incident took place on Sunday, September 15, 2024. At 11:43 AM that morning, police were called about a man who had either fallen or jumped off the suspension bridge over the Cedar River. Police were told the subject was struggling in the water. A responding officer took off their duty gear and jumped in the river and pulled the adult male out of the water. Police said the male is 30 years old, but no further details were released. He was transported to the Floyd County Medical Center for treatment.

Police were assisted by the fire department.
