CHARLES CITY – Another errant teen driver in Charles City apparently caused an auto accident, this time with injuries.

On August 15, 2024, at 12:32 PM, emergency responders were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the corner of N. Johnson Street and Hulin Street. Crews arrived on scene to find the occupants had already exited the vehicles safely.

Police say a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 77-year-old Dennis Rabb of Charles City was eastbound on Hulin Street when the vehicle was struck by a southbound 2005 Pontiac G6 driven by 16-year-old Xander Lantz.

As a result of the collision, police say there were minor injuries to various persons. The occupants were checked out by AMR due to airbag deployment. Once Chatfield’s towing removed the vehicles from the road way responders were able to return to service.

Damage was estimated to be $10,000.

Lantz was cited for failure to yield to vehicle on the right.

Police thanked AMR, Chatfield’s Towing and the Charles City Fire Department for their assistance on scene.

This is at least the second recent auto accident in Charles City involving a teen driver. NIT earlier reported back on August 11 that a teen backed into an innocent 2024 Mercedes Benz driven by a fancy lawyer, causing hundereds in damages.
