BUTLER COUNTY – A Greene man was thrown from his motorcycle Friday afternoon when a driver ran a stop sign, causing a collision.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place Friday, June 14, 2024. At about 3:20 PM that afternoon, on Highway 188 and Yale Avenue in Butler county, a 2016 Chevy pickup driven by 46-year-old PAtrick Lentz of Plainfield was southbound on Tale Avenue. Lentz began to initiate a turn eastbound, the Patrol says, onto Highway 188, when a westbound 2008 Honda motorcycle driven by 34-year-old James Cummings of Greene was passing the intersection and struck the pickup.
As a result of the collision, Cummings, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle. He was taken by helicopter to Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
Lentz was cited for failure to obey a stop sign and yield right of way.
Assisting the Patrol were Butler county sheriff, Clarksville Ambulance, Waverly paramedics, Plainfield first responders and Plainfield fire.
