Juvenile drivers total their vehicles in rural Mason City collision

MASON CITY - Two vehicles were destroyed and one juvenile driver suffered injuries when young drivers failed to handle a turn just north of Mason City, causing a collision.

MASON CITY – Two vehicles were destroyed and one juvenile driver suffered injuries when young drivers failed to handle a turn just north of Mason City, causing a collision.

On August 20, 2023, at approximately 10:13 PM, the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched for a two-vehicle accident at 300th Street and Pheasant Avenue in Mason City. One juvenile was driving a 2012 blue Volkswagon EOS KOMFORT when they rear ended another juvenile who was driving a 2001 silver Pontiac Firebird, due to following to closely. Both vehicles were heading westbound on 300th street just past Pheasant Avenue. The driver of the Firebird used a turn signal to signal they were turning left. The driver of the Volkswagon was following to closely and was not able to react and stop their vehicle which caused them to rear end the Firebird. The Firebird came to a rest in the south ditch on 300th while the Volkwagon came to rest on the south shoulder of 300th.

Both vehicles were totaled.

The driver of the Volkwagon suffered minor lacerations to his right hand due to the accident and the driver of the Firebird suffered no injuries.

Both vehicles were towed away and the Juveniles were released to their parents.
