Iowa man nabbed in Clear Lake for felony domestic assault with strangulation

CLEAR LAKE - An Iowa man was the subject of several reports to police in Clear Lake and after an investigation, he's in jail on felony charges.

CLEAR LAKE – An Iowa man was the subject of several reports to police in Clear Lake and after an investigation, he’s in jail on felony charges.

On April 18, 2024, Clear Lake Police Officers arrested 28-year-old Benjamin S. Mehmen of Duncan, Iowa, following a report made to law enforcement in late March, of several incidents occurring in Clear Lake between September 2023 and January of 2024. Mehmen was charged with Domestic Assault with Strangulation (D Felony) and four counts of Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon (C Felony). He has been transferred to Cerro Gordo County Jail awaiting his initial court appearance.

The Clear Lake Police Department was assisted by the Cerro Gordo County Attorney’s Office and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident remains under investigation and no further information was released by police at this time.
