Charles City man arrested on homicide by vehicle charge in connection to fatal accident that killed Mason City man

MASON CITY – A Charles City man has been arrested on homicide by vehicle charge in connection to fatal accident that killed Mason City man.

On July 25, 2022, at about 11:10 PM, Cerro Gordo County Deputies and Iowa State Patrol Troopers responded to a two vehicle collision near the intersection of 265th Street and Yarrow Avenue in Cerro Gordo County. As a result of the accident, Stephen John Miles, 41, of Mason City was killed and two others in his vehicle were injured. Timothy Hoy was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima, going East on 265th Street, when he crossed the center line of the roadway, striking Miles’ 2009 Pontiac G5 head on.

A search warrant was gained by Deputies for a blood test of Hoy to investigate alcohol intoxication at the time of the accident.

On August 11, 2022, Cerro Gordo county deputies filed warrants for the arrest of Timothy James Hoy, age 58 of Charles City.

As a result, Hoy has been arrested for Homicide by Vehicle (OWI), a Class B Felony, and driving on the wrong side of a two lane highway, a simple misdemeanor. Hoy was arrested in Charles City and is currently being held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail.
