MASON CITY – A Mason City car wash is being demolished today.
The Auto Wash located at 210 6th Street SW is finally being demolished. The property and structure there had fallen into serious disrepair and neglect over the years. Pieces of brick from the building were falling to the ground. None of the wash bays nor the vacuum stations seemed to work. Rats, vermin, homeless, druggies and worse were seen coming and going at all hours of the day and night. Today, a man was there with equipment tearing the brick structure down. It had been for sale for months, if not years.
The property is now owned by David and Jeanne Bernhardt of Mason City. Records show they purchased the property for $85,000 back in December from Cardel, LLC, out of Swaledale.
City Hall told NIT this morning that “We issued a demolition permit for that property on April 13. The owners have not been in contact with us regarding any future use of the property.”
