MASON CITY – Mason City schools will move to full-time in-person learning, the school district announced.
Beginning the week of Monday, February 15, 2021, Mason City Community School District will offer two options for learning: (1) Full-time in-person learning; and (2) Continuous/online learning. This move to these two learning options meets the requirements of the approved Iowa Senate File 160 signed by Governor Reynolds on Friday, January 29, 2021.
Full-time in-person learning will follow the 2020-2021 Board approved calendar. Wednesday will continue to be an early dismissal day. The schedule for Wednesday early dismissal will follow the half-day dismissal schedule for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school calendar year. Following the half-day dismissal schedule meets the requirements set forth in Senate File 160 and provides staff dedicated time for planning/work with continuous/online learning and professional development. The early dismissal schedule, by building, for Wednesday is listed below.
Buildings will send a communication to all families by Friday, February 5 regarding specifics related to your student’s schedule and procedures for requesting continuous/online learning. Only parents/guardians opting to select the option of continuous/online learning will need to contact their student’s building to schedule this learning option.

The teachers unions. however, want it both ways. They want the benefits of being an essential worker who is put at the front of the line but then when it comes to putting themselves out there to do their job, they refuse to do so.
The unions want to protect its members. That is what unions do – they look out for their members because it has been evidenced time after time that administrations and big business won’t do that.
Why is it that teachers are being put on a pedestal when the rest of our essential workers aren’t?
Giving a teacher a computer and giving a student a computer does not automatically make it online learning. Everybody knows students are not keeping up under the current situation. We will be paying for this in the years to come.
Yes, thank you ex-President Trump
might be Joe’s time to bring us all together…start in the classroom
the number of infections has gone down due to what they were doing, why change that?? be back to 4 day once they go back up. hope none of the kids die from it, is it really worth another day for this to happen?? charge the school board members with murder if it does.
keep your kid home. let the students decide. some parents need to work to support the family
500+ died each day last week in California. They by far had the very best handling at mitigating the virus. And they lost. They’ll surpassed New York’s death toll very soon. Why not finish the year off with online learning. Then improve on it over the summer break. Summer it has been said is when we’ll all be getting the shot. Begin afresh in the fall. One thing they will not be doing is to will the virus away. Like they have some magical super powers. It thrives in group settings. Most people are carriers/spreaders that catch it. Why promote the spread.
how many were teachers or students?
