RURAL FAYETTE COUNTY – Two Northern Iowa women are dead after an apparent river mis-hap Monday afternoon.
On June 8, 2020 at approximately 3:40 PM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of two people who had gone over the dam near Clermont on the Turkey River who were in distress. Upon arrival deputies were directed to the area of Mill and River Street, near the dam. A rescue was initiated upon the arrival of emergency crews. Despite lifesaving efforts both victims were transported to Palmer Hospital in West Union and were pronounced deceased. The victims were later identified as Sharon Kahn age, 64 of West Union and Vicki K. Hodges age, 44 of West Union.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Clermont Fire and E.M.S., Elgin Fire and E.M.S., Tristate Ambulance, Gundersen Air Ambulance, The Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and The Iowa State Patrol.
