Three hurt in car-bus collision outside Clear Lake

RURAL CLEAR LAKE – Three people were hurt in car-bus collision outside Clear Lake.

The accident took place on the afternoon of February 12, 2020, at about 2:30 PM at South 8th Street and 27th Avenue outside Clear Lake. A 2014 Ford Focus driven by 19-year-old Brandi Jane Pals was southbound of South 8th Street while a 2019 Forest River coach bus driven by 69-year-old Melferd Levern Torkelson was eastbound on 27th Avenue. Torkelson failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection. The front of the Focus struck the side of the bus. As a result, Pals, Torkelson and 32-year-old Shaina Elise Brunsvold were transported to Mercy One; Pals was later transported to Mayo Clinic.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by Iowa State Patrol, Clear Lake police, Cerro Gordo Sheriff, Mason City Fire And Clear Lake Fire.
