Charles City man accused of speeding and drunk driving

CHARLES CITY – Police stopped an allegedly intoxicated speeding Charles City man.

The arrest came on the evening of August 14, 2019. Officers with the Charles City police department conducted a traffic stop at about 10:01 PM near the intersection of North Main Street and Blunt Street. After an investigation, police arrested 39-year-old Cory Buchholz of Charles City on charges of operating while intoxicated, speeding and failure to use headlamps.

Buchholz awaits a hearing set for August 30.

The guy zigged when he should have zagged. MADD needs to now include texting along with the alcohol and drugs into their nonprofit organization policies. If they don’t they are engaging in hypocrisy of the highest order. Large cities with heavy automobile traffic are experiencing 10 times the amount of accidents from texting drivers than from those on alcohol and such. Way, way worst. Go figure.

Nine out of ten cars that go through our intersection are texting while driving. We see the shoot through all the time and they don’t look at all. It is just a matter of time before the next accident, or a child getting hit now that they are going back to school.
