DES MOINES – Today, Gov. Kim Reynolds and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig sent a letter to Environmental Protection Agency Secretary Andrew Wheeler outlining the damaging effects of the 31 new small refinery waivers (SRE’s) undermining the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). Reynolds and Naig also extended an invitation to Secretary Wheeler to come to Iowa and see the devastating impact of these exemptions firsthand.

“The loss of these markets has taken a devastating toll on rural families facing one of the toughest years on record,” said Gov. Reynolds and Secretary Naig in their letter. “Ethanol consumption fell for the first time in 20 years, commodity markets are depressed, and many biofuel plants, including several in Iowa, have already slowed or halted production.”
Gov. Reynolds and Secretary Naig have stood alongside U.S. Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst in defense of the RFS. Reynolds testified earlier this year on the harm these waivers would cause to Iowa’s hard working farmers. You can watch that testimony here.

So an Iowa farmer threaten employees from the USDA that they stopped the tour of some cornfields. Not cool for you Governor. Go get that rascal.
What promise. In a short time Illinois is going to be rolling in billions upon billions of dollars coming in. Let the green wave crash upon Iowa and all will be fine and dandy! Sell cannabis. Don’t be the last one in line before the Federal Government regulates it. Already the big powerful corporations are forming there monopolies on the trade. Namely the beverage industry. Uncle Sam wants you working and paying taxes. Not asking for handouts. The corn in Illinois appears to be greener now. $$$
If they make it legal in Iowa it should be regulated and taxed just as any intoxicating substance is. In fact, it should be taxed twice as much as alcohol, except for medical users who get it at a pharmacy.
And just as they regulate intoxicated drivers and intoxicated people, laws should be enacted to make sure that driving under the influence of marijuana is penalized the same as alcohol. That includes large fines and mandatory jail time.
We don’t need more drugheads out in public, we already have much too many people drunk on alcohol wandering around as it is.
As well, scientists should develop instant tests to detect levels of marijuana in the blood stream just as they do alcohol, and establish roadblocks on a random basis.
