MASON CITY – A teen got a ten-year prison sentence after a December home invasion and robbery in Mason City.
Camden Nicholson, age 17, had been sought by Mason City police for some time after he and two other male suspects invaded a Mason City home back on December 27, 2018, just before midnight. Police said officers responded to the 800 block of 8th Street N.E. on a report that up to three males forced their way into the home. One suspect held an adult female resident down while the other suspects stole items from the home. The victim, who was alone, was strangled by her attacker and lost consciousness. She was also threatened that she would be stabbed. The victim did not seek medical attention at that time.
On January 3, 2019, officers executed search warrants on a vehicle located in the 500 block of North Washington Avenue and a residence in the Zero block of South Adams Avenue in connection with the robbery. Joseph Ryan Jaskiel, now age 17, was arrested during the search warrant at the South Adams location and was charged with Robbery in the first degree, a class B felony. Nicholson was later located and also charged with first-degree robbery.
Later, Nicholson pled guilty to second-degree robbery, as did Jaskiel, who awaits sentencing. A judge sentenced Nicholson to ten years in prison. There was no word so far on the status of the other, younger defendant, who has been in the juvenile court process.

We were all sexually assaulted by our biological father when we were children. We also were frequently hit by our mother. Didn’t help we were taken in by our grandparents who weren’t any better. This is what happens when children do not receive the help they need as children. The whole system has failed us. Those people deserve to be in prison. Not us. We were innocent children. We are still young. None of us deserve to die. My brother went after someone because they hurt his friend. Since justice is not served by the authorities. This is the result.
Should be more for this sick narcissist. He has no regard or remorse for anything or anyone. He will be the same or worse when he gets out, pray he doesn’t end up killing someone like he has almost already. As far as his mother she seems to let let to run wild with out getting him or herself help. I feel if a person knows their child is a danger to society and do nothing they are also to blame.
It is to damn bad he didn’t break into the home of a gun owner. He could have been shot and saved us all a lot of money.
great he and his friends will be on the streets again in a few years, he wont do half his time and he will be a more informed violent criminal when he comes back. smiling in his mugshot, he deserves to be dead for what he and his boyfriends did. he is a seventeen year old waste of space. I hope his parents don’t have more kids and I hope the shame is killing them.
