MASON CITY – A Mason City man is facing an assault charge after an incident on school grounds.

Mason City police tell NIT that there was a “disagreement amongst several people on the playground/basketball court” at Hoover School on August 13, 2017. Following an investigation, a warrant was issued for 19-year-old Dylan Runge of Mason City on a charge of assault causing bodily injury. Police say the victim received serious bodily injuries that were the result of an altercation at the school. Runge eventually turned himself in, but later failed to appear in court for a pre-trial conference, leading to another warrant. He turned himself in again on December 10 and remains in jail. He will face a jury trial on December 19.

There were no school employees involved in the incident.

  1. “the result of an altercation at the school” Now everyone will think this was an assault in the school. Not outside the school building. This is how so many shootings become “school shooting”.

  2. Let’s see how consistent are County attorney is they better charge him with trespassing. See how consistence the court are you salt somebody on grounds that aren’t yours it’s trespassing a serious misdemeanor little-known law.
