Name released of deceased man found in Mason City street

MASON CITY – Mason City police have released the name of the man hit was found deceased in a city street last week.

On Thursday, August 11, 2016, at 6:36 a.m., the Mason City Police Department responded to a medical call in the 1600 block of South Carolina Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and proceeded to administer emergency first aid to a male who was found in the street. He was transported to Mercy Medical Center by the Mason City Fire Department He was pronounced dead there a short time later.

As part of the ongoing investigation into this matter, the MCPD is being assisted by the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Laboratory.

The male has been identified as Dennis Marvin Mertz, age 65, of Mason City. At this time, police do not suspect that there is foul play involved in this incident. However, police are encouraging anyone who may have information about the circumstances surrounding Mertz’s death to contact MCPD.
