MARYVILLE, TN – Ruby Tuesday, Inc. today announced plans to “streamline the organization” and close as many as 95 restaurants – but Mason City’s location is doing fine and doesn’t seem to be involved in the downsizing effort.
Ruby Tuesday recently completed a comprehensive review of its corporate-owned restaurant portfolio and determined that it was in the Company’s best interest to close approximately 95 underperforming restaurants. These locations will cease operations by September 2016. As of May 31, 2016, Ruby Tuesday’s system included 724 restaurants, of which 646 were company-operated. This conclusion, followed a rigorous unit-level analysis of sales, cash flows and other key performance metrics, as well as site location, market positioning and lease status.
A call to the Mason City Ruby Tuesday restaurant confirmed that, indeed, the local eatery is a franchise operation, and a manger, Jim, told NIT that “all is well here, we are doing great.” Meaning, the restaurant is likely not part of the closures the company is referring to.
JJ Buettgen, Chairman of the Board, President, and Chief Executive Officer concluded, “The decision to close restaurants is a difficult but necessary step as we take aggressive actions to strengthen our organization. Performance at each of these locations, despite the loyalty of valued guests and the efforts of our dedicated employees, was not meeting expectations. Full-time and part-time employees impacted by closures will be offered positions in nearby restaurants where possible.”

Buettgen also commented, “Our fourth quarter was impacted by softness in the casual dining industry and increased promotional activity by our peers. Given that we expect the macro environment to remain challenging for some time, we are taking the necessary steps to change the trajectory of our business.”
Mason City’s Ruby Tuesday was under construction in fall of 2010 and opened soon thereafter. It has been a favorite of local diners ever since.

Most of their foods are too spicy. I stick to the salad bar when I go there.
We all like pretty waitresses right? Eye candy to flirt with while you eat? The basic business model of 21st century corporate restaurant chains.
Congratulations on your successful transition from undatable youth to pervy middle age!
Liberal demorats – Economy is great/ISIS is on the run –Yea ! right to the airport for a obummer landing in your hometown – Should both be hung.
Too pricey for what you get.
Corporate gobbledygook by JJ Buettgen. No wonder this place has gone down hill.
Maybe they need to close the M.C. location for 1 day and reopen with new help.
Been there several times and twice with a large group. 1st time we had reservations and after sitting in they entryway for a 45 minutes past our reservation time the hostess realizes she marked us down as seated even though we were still sitting/standing there, another 1/2 hour wait to be seated. 2nd time everybody got their order except me. By the time the waiter came back around and asked how everything was I said “how do I know? I haven’t got my food yet.” The staff “missed” the order when bringing it out and the kitchen had threw it away. Got my food when everybody else was almost done eating.
Last time I was there the waiter mentioned a special on draft beer so I ordered a glass. Got the bill and it was regular price. The waiter said he would need to talk to the manager to see if it could be corrected. HE was the one who told me the price.
For some reason people love this place. I would only go back if I had no say in where we go to eat.
their food has gone down hill since it open we use to like it alot, they can’t even cook a steak right.
