AMES, Iowa – Iowa State senior placekicker Cole Netten is one of 88 players under consideration for the 2016 Wuerffel Trophy, announced this week by the All Sports Association in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
The Wuerffel Trophy is named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel and is given annually to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Netten, a native of Ankeny, Iowa, is one of the best placekickers in Iowa State history, owning the school’s career field goal percentage mark at 74.5 percent. Netten, who enters his final year as a Cyclone by making his last eight field goal attempts, ranks sixth in Iowa State history with 38 career field goals.
A First Team Academic All-Big 12 selection in 2015, Netten is extremely active in the community and has made it a priority to be involved in student-athlete outreach programs. Netten regularly assists in hospital visits and many other civic programs as a volunteer.
