MASON CITY – A Mason City High School student has been recognized with an award for outstanding character and sportsmanship.

Quinn Slaven, Mason City High School senior, was recently chosen to be a recipient of the Burlsworth Character Award for Outstanding Character and Sportsmanship. The award is given to athletes who exemplify the characteristics of Brandon Burlsworth, a walk-on at Arkansas, who was tragically killed after being drafted in the NFL.

The characteristics that Brandon displayed as a walk-on at Arkansas are the basis for the award, which include giving 100% on the field and standing as a moral example to his team and community. Quinn displays these qualities not only in football, but wrestling, track, school, and in the community. Quinn is also one of the founding members of the Pursing Victory with Honor student organization at Mason City High School.

As a special honor to being chosen as a recipient this year, Quinn’s name and Community will be listed in the credits of the movie “Greater” which is being released in the summer of 2016. The movie is a story about the life of Brandon Burlsworth.
