Maybe, NIACC is doing better than some think it is.
Almost all colleges and universities give a reduced rate for their children who would attend that school. Do you think that businesses don’t do the same thing? I worked in a clothing store when I was younger and all employees got a 30% discount. Sounds like a couple of people didn’t get what they wanted from NIACC. It is a good school. It serves a great purpose in our society.

So if you tally up all the Federal (PELL grants included), State of Iowa funding and local property taxes that comes up to 58.7 % of NIACC revenue is from the Taxpayer in form or another.

Thanks for the link. Looking over the financial statement, NIACC operated at a gain for the year. I guess my point here is why is the free tuition a big thing for you? How many dependents take advantage of this and how much does it cost NIACC per year to fund this?
As I stated NIACC is mostly a taxpayer funded institution, it does not cost NIAAC anything, it costs the taxpayer.
So as a taxpayer then you must not mind paying for a NIACC employee’s dependent to go to college.
Even though the NIACC employee more than likely can more than afford it.

Because I don’t know the exact deal worked out, I am guessing that her probation will contain some wording about paying the restitution in a timely fashion. If she doesn’t do that, then she would be in violation of her probation. Iowa’s prisons are overcrowded now. If she were sentenced to prison, she would probably have to sit in a county jail for 2-6 months waiting for prison space to open. What would that accomplish? I don’t know this woman. Perhaps she is a good person, maybe she isn’t. She might have children. How are they going to be affected by her incarceration? The judge has to take all these things into consideration and he knows more about it than any of you. Get off your judgmental podium and accept that sometimes things happen because it is for the greater good.

I’m not defending what she did. She broke the law. All I am saying is that more than just the crime was probably involved in the judge’s decision.
If she were sentence to prison she would probably be in the jail a couple of days before transfer to Women’s Correctional Institution and paroled in fairly short order due to overcrowding and being convicted of a property crime. You should become familiar with Iowa Code Chapters 901 – 907 and learn what sentencing options are available and what the courts can consider in imposing a sentence. If you don’t like what the law says, contact your legislators since they pass the laws.

That was tried several years ago, but was shot down because some people thought that this band shell was an icon (LOL). At that time, the MCHS band instructor and several of his students came to the band shell and, in their opinion, said that the shell did not have good acoustics for sound, if I remember correctly. There was a design made for a new band shell, possibly by WHKS?, that was totally updated, with plumbing, electrical, acoustics, and with two stages.
Why would you want to waste money on something else if the one we have is not utilized? From what I understand people won’t go because of all the wantabe toughs that hang out at every event.

NORTH IOWA FAIR GROUNDS: when is enough enough? What a disaster. The “All Seasons Building” has 10 booths, no air conditioning and air so stale a hog would die. Nobody and I mean nobody in the walkways, vendors with no lines and a ride display that was so aged I would never put my child on it. They stoop to mini stages in the Olsen Building were local singers sing to who? WHY would Three Eagles, or whatever your called now-a-days sponsor this disaster? Little girls loved the baby chicks; toured the barns–exhibitors good to my city grandkids. Helicopter rides a huge hit–again, it doesn’t sound like we went to the same fair.

You need to understand that at his advancing age, LVS just cant control himself.
A decade + ago a guy named David had a nice cushy gig in the National Guard for 10 years. Then when he had to actually deploy and be a real solder he wussed out and quit when he got back.
He couldn’t handle not having it easy and having to be a real soldier.
Matter of fact and in his own words:
“I decided before I even went I knew I was going to call it quits.”
It sounds like he had already decided to leave the guard before the deployment call came down, but he did, deploy. A lot of people leave the military after a deployment, when they decide the military is not for them. Why is he any different then any of the others. Military life is not for everybody, and the only way to know that, is to step up to the plate and join.

So Allen, he spent almost 10 years in the NG before the deployment & he liked it because it was a cushy gig. The when he had to be a real soldier he decided to bail out. He made that decision when he found out that he had to go, not before.

By the way Allen if you haven’t figured it out by now my stalker is mike funk. The same one that claimed he shot an insurgent even after they searched the place and found no blood or body, just holes in the wall. Not only is he a liar, like I said he tried to break my leg so I couldn’t deploy and he could have my E 5 slot. Now who does that to a fellow soldier. We all learned a valuable lesson over there, never turn your back on him.

I loved being in the military but my wife didn’t. Sometimes you have to think of more than yourself so I decided to get out when I ETS’d for my wife and family. That doesn’t make me a loser, actually being so obsessed with someone that you would dig up a small article like that just to try to hurt someone makes you the loser.You really must hate yourself, trying to hurt me for being a patriot and a father.

I did 12 years and I loves every second of it and if I had to do it again the only thing I would change is I would go in earlier, so screw you for trying to hurt me for putting my family first. Rockwell just had over 6,000 people come in last weekend and will have another 2,500 people come in August for the chicken bbq. Not bad for a town of 1,000.

An event of that size would be colossal for Rockwell, given its a town of about 1,000. Didn’t notice any coverage in NIT or other area media. Nothing on their FB page either.
Ya, it was a huge event and takes several organizations to put on. The Rockwell Lions host the event with support from countless volunteers from many organizations. And yes, it was advertised on the radio, KIMT did a story, ads were on TV, and it was on the City of Rockwell’s FB page.

Small town pride is a great thing and many of our North Iowa towns do an awesome job in bringing the community together to celebrate many wonderful traditions. But the post said bigger and better than Mason City and that is simply not true.

You know that 40 million settlement the state of Iowa received from the tobacco companies to pay for smoking treatments -bad lungs and such – yup! you guessed it – that money was used for the increase in teachers salaries and benefits – money was to be paid back to tobacco health fund in what 2 years – guess what? yep you guessed it – just passed some bill that gives no set date for pay back – would you call that some kind of theft? Should the SURF BALLROOM be investigated? This last Friday the Surf Ballroom had a concert 1700+ tickets sold. Here’s the problem, the main act, main singer never showed, the Surf told the crowd he “missed” his bus, TRUTH is he was arrested in Minnesota on open warrants. Demanded refunds to no avail once crowd found out the next day, the surf doesn’t refund period.
Question? Where are the Cerro Gordo authorities at in this situation? Is this not fraud when the paying crowd is told a lie to avoid a run at the refund ticket box? Does the Surf do ANY background checks on artists they are selling tickets for at $20? Are local authorities once again PLAYING FAVORITES?
NIT asked the Surf what happened, and never responded to our questions.

FIREWORKS: MC failure, 26 minutes long and half hardly cleared the tree line of Winnebago river. Only worse thing was the terrible KLSS reception of music. Whomever selected the play list should be fired. The station broadcasted more static then music.Osage even put MC to shame. GIVE IT UP and head to Clear Lake.
