What an eventful first week! It’s hard to describe the immense sense of honor and privilege I felt as I walked through the doors of the House chambers on Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, to be sworn into office. I am so grateful that my family was able to join me for the ceremony. That afternoon each House member, in order of seniority, selected a seat. I ended up with a seat in the front row, which prompted the newsletter name of “Front Row News.”
In other news, Gov. Reynolds delivered her Condition of the State address on Tuesday. It was such an honor to be in the chambers and listen to her present in person. I am even more encouraged about the state of our state after the Governor’s remarks. Because of strong leadership from our governor and the Legislature, our state is in a strong position despite the pandemic. Unemployment is decreasing while GDP is increasing.
The Governor outlined many key issues that are also my priorities, including need for universal, affordable high-speed internet; public-private partnerships so working Iowans can have access to affordable child care; parental choice for education and tax reform. I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues in both chambers on issues that will keep Iowa moving forward.

The City Council of the City of Mason City, Iowa, met in regular session pursuant to law and rules of said Council, in the Mason City Room of the Mason City Public Library, at 7:00 P.M., on January 5, 2021. Due to COVID-19, the meeting was held as a virtual meeting via Zoom. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor and on roll being called there were present, Bill Schickel, Mayor in the Chair, and the following Council Members: Thoma, Jaszewski, Symonds, Masson, Adams, Lee. Absent: None.

Discussion followed regarding an overview of the project, what would happen afterwards, taxes, etc. AYES: All (Motion carried.)
