Two Iowa middle-schoolers arrested on terrorism charges

investigateKNOXVILLE, IA – Two Iowa teens were whisked away to a juvie detention center on felony threat of terrorism charges after police investigated a threat at a middle school.

During the evening of February 12, 2015 the Knoxville, Iowa Police Department was made aware of a threat being made against the Knoxville Middle School. Officers immediately investigated the threat. At that time the investigating officer felt there was no immediate threat to the school.

On Friday morning February 13, 2015 Knoxville School Resource Officer Kyle Keller notified school officials and continued the investigation. As a result of that investigation two Knoxville Middle School eighth grade boys, ages 13 and 14, were taken into custody on the charge of Conspiracy to Commit Terrorism, a class D Felony. Both juveniles were transported to a secure juvenile holding facility.

The Knoxville Police Department wishes to thank Knoxville Community School District staff for assisting with this investigation and for helping to insure that all students were safe throughout the day.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a person charged with a criminal offense is innocent until proven guilty by a court.
