First of four flood homes has been moved

MASON CITY – After some delays, one flood home has been moved from the East Park area to its new location on East State Street.

A Forest City company has completed the move of one two-story single family house from the 600 block of 7th Street NE area to the 300 block of East State and Connecticut Avenue. Friday afternoon, workers were at that location and looked to be prepping the house to be set onto a foundation already in place.

There are three other homes set to move. The route they will travel from 7th Street NE and Carolina Avenue is north on Carolina, then west on 4th Street NE, south on North Georgia and then east on State Street. No Parking signs were posted along the route prior to the move, and Mason City police had one squad car assisting with traffic control during the move.

Two other single family homes should be making the same trek over the weekend.  The other structure, called the “Egloff  house” may not be moved until later.

The city facilitated the move of these houses by partnering with a group called Community Betterment.  Former rental houses located at the 300 block of East State Street were acquired and then demolished to make way for the flood homes that were damaged way back in 2008.
