Mason City man escapes felony charge of domestic abuse involving strangulation

MASON CITY – A Mason City man was able to work a plea deal in a case where he was accused of felony domestic abuse assault involving strangulation.

Kristofer Warren Voigt, age 34, was arrested after police were called to 334 9th Street NE on Thursday, July 24th at about 3:45 AM. He was charged with felony domestic assault involving strangulation, third degree criminal mischief, obstruction of emergency communications and violation of a protective order.

In November, Vogt and his legal team were able to work out a plea deal with county prosecutors. He pleaded guilty to first offense domestic abuse assault, fifth degree criminal mischief. He was sent to jail for 5 days and ordered to pay $1,026.85 in fines and court fees. He is still awaiting trial on the charge of obstruction of emergency communications.
