MASON CITY – A long-time family-owned business has announced they are in the process of moving from Southbridge Mall, but will remain in the downtown area.

Jitters Coffee, currently located in the south side of Southbridge Mall, will serve their last cup of coffee there on December 31, owner Scott Elsbury told NIT Thursday morning. Mr. Elsbury said that he and his wife, Candy, are excited about their new opportunity.

“We were presented with an opportunity that we couldn’t pass up,” he said. “We wanted to stay in the downtown area.”

Scott and Candy will be setting up at the corner of 4th SW and Washington Avenue. This building has previously served the Republican Party this past fall as its county headquarters. It has also been the Bagel Depot and River City Bagel and was once a bus depot.

This area is seeing somewhat of a rejuvenation.  Huber Supply recently moved from the North End to a building across the street at 149 4th Street SW, formerly occupied by Metalcraft.  There are seven new condos being finished just a fews blocks up the road, at the corner of 4th Street SW and S. Madison Ave.

A new sign is coming for Jitters. It will say “Jitters Coffee Bar and Downtown Outback”.

Scott and Candy are closing up shop at the mall at this time and getting situated and moved down the street to the new location. He said that “minimal” remodeling will be done at the new spot, but customers can expect that Jitters touch.

“It will have an Australian theme,” Scott said.

  1. The mall would be a good place for bass pro. Lvs it would be a problem for me to get caught carrying in the mall. I have a federal firearms licence.

  2. Fubar, by your comments I gather you must be a whiz at property management. If a cheap seat theater showing 3rd run movies seems like such a good deal why don’t step up to the plate and bankroll it? Myself, I’ll stay home and watch Netflix.

  3. As long as it will bring in some fun and entertainment for us I don’t mind paying a little extra, its these dumb as motels and parking lots, statues and the good ole boys toys that pisses me off.

  4. Our mall is as dead as this drug ridden town, town has lots of illegal money in it but those type of people don’t shop in the mall. Place needs to put in a huge bowling alley, restaurant and another theater that only charges $5 per show and then this so called mall might survive. To the owners of the mall build this place up for the young and old, give us something we want and we will come. Lower the rent to attract new business. You don’t need to be a genius to figure this out,

  5. I dont go to the mall but I will try theyre stuff now that they arent with the mall. I will not go places that place no carry of firearms.
