MASON CITY – North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) Student Senate is sponsoring a Coat Drive on campus, December 1 to 9, with all items and monetary donations going to NIVC Services to distribute to those in need of winter wear.
Students will also be at Hy-Vee East Wednesday, December 3 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., standing ‘Coatless in the Cold’ in t-shirts and shorts to collect donations. “This is an eye-opening way to raise awareness of the challenges many face in the North Iowa winter,” said Molli Koehler, Student Senate Information Officer. “It makes it real for us.”
“As evidenced by the generous giving during our food drive earlier this month, we truly appreciate the support this community shows with our projects,” said Gary Herrig, Student Senate Advisor. More than 200 coats and numerous hats, pairs of gloves, scarves and other winter clothing, as well as cash donations, were collected last year.
