hemp marijuanaOTTUMWA, IOWA – Marijuana found on a burger served at an Ottumwa, Iowa McDonald’s restaurant can’t be linked to employees at the establishment due to a lack of evidence, police said this week.

An Ottumwa, Iowa police investigation into food seized from the restaurant yielded no evidence linking a McDouble burger and its marijuana condiment to any employee of McDonald’s, police in the south central Iowa city said. Lab tests did confirm, however, that marijuana was on the burger. Police have now closed the investigation and put the matter to rest and no charges are begin brought.

The trouble began on April 26, 2014, when 31-year-old Cory Long ordered two McDoubles for his pregnant fiance, 23-year-old Brittany Songer from the McDonald’s restaurant located at 222 Richmond Avenue in Ottumwa. Both took a bite of the burger.

“It tasted bad, and I thought maybe it was because [Long] had cologne on his hands when he bit it. Then I opened the burger and the cheese was just covered with weed,” Songer told the Ottumwa Post.

The Post reported that Songer immediately stopped eating her meal and placed the food in the restroom at her work until she finished her shift.

“Once I opened those burgers, you couldn’t smell McDonald’s anymore. You could only smell the illegal drugs that were on it,” Songer told the Post.
