DES MOINES – The mayor of a small town in Polk county, Iowa will face no charges after local police referred a complaint about alleged inappropriate contact with children to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).
According to the DCI, on Monday, June 2, 2014, the Mitchellville Police Department received a complaint involving the Mayor of Mitchellville. It was reported by a citizen at a local Elementary School that there was inappropriate conduct between Mayor Jeremy Filbert and children. The Mitchellville Police Department contacted and requested the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation conduct an investigation into the allegation.
On Wednesday, July 2, the DCI announced that it had conducted and completed the investigation. Through multiple thorough interviews, conducted by the DCI, it was determined that no criminal activity took place. After consultation with the Polk County Attorney’s Office, no charges will be filed and the case has been closed.
Filbert announced in April that he would seek the Republican Party’s nomination to run for the Iowa Senate District 15 seat. He lost to Crystal Bruntz.
