Five dead after I-80 accident Friday

logo-iowa-state-patrolADAIR COUNTY, IOWA – A one-vehicle accident claimed the lives of at least four people from Nebraska as well as another person yet to be identified.

According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, at about 8:10 PM Friday evening, a 2011 Chevy Camaro 29-year-old Alex J. Paz-Lobo of Grand Island, Nebraska was eastbound on Interstate 80 in Adair county, southwest of Des Moines. There were four other persons inside the vehicle. Paz-Lobo lost control, crossed the median and then crossed the west bound lanes and entered a field, where the car rolled.

All five occupants in the car were killed and taken to a nearby funeral home.

Killed were: Paz-Lobo; Javier Martinez-Martin, age 41; Denis Juvenal Sorto-Martinez, age 25; Jose B. Hernandez, age 21; all from Grand Island. A fifth person was killed but has not been identified. Only one occupant in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by Stuart Fire and Rescue, Adair County Ambulance, Adair Fire and Rescue, Menlo Fire and Rescue, Adiar County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Department of Transportation.

The accident remains under investigation.
