Palmeter records second best NIACC women’s 5K in school history

niacc_trojans_logoBETTENDORF – Freshman Hannah Palmeter (Bessemer, Mich.) recorded the second-fastest 5-kilometer time in NIACC women’s history with her ninth-place finish in a time of 19 minutes, 10 seconds at the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Invitational on Saturday.

Palmeter’s time moved her past Kalyn Kruckenberg for second on the all-time school list. Kruckenberg clocked a 19:19 in the 2010 season. The all-time 5K record holder is Anna Buenneke, who ran 18:15 in 2011.

The NIACC women placed fifth at Saturday’s meet with 174 points. Olivet Nazarene was the team champion with 18 points and host St. Ambrose was second with 59 points.

Also for NIACC, sophomore Lindsay Brunson (Muscatine, Ia.) was 33rd in 20:30, freshman Nicolle Hewett (Mason City, Ia.) was 90th in 23:03, sophomore Stephanie Faught (Clear Lake, Ia.) was 107th in 25:04 and freshman Leta Jaquis (Gilbert, Ia.) was 108th in 25:12.

The No. 22 NIACC men placed second at the Fighting Bee Invitational with 66 points. Olivet Nazarene was the team champion with 15 points.

NIACC was led by sophomore John-Ross Tangi (Brandtford, Ontario), who was 11th in the 8K race in a time of 26:37.

Also for NIACC, sophomore Mason Powers (Gilbert, Ia.) was 12th in 26:47, freshman Jaime Zarate (Cedar Falls, Ia.) was 19th in 27:36, sophomore Alex Blomquist (Estherville, Ia.) was 23rd in 27:44 and sophomore Scott Patnode (South Milwaukee, Wis.) was 36th in 28:03.

The NIACC men and women return to action at the NJCAA Region XI meet on Oct. 26 in Fort Dodge.
