ROCKWELL – A street dance held in Rockwell Saturday night was marred by arrests.

A large crowd gathered in the small town just south of Mason City for live music performed by Boogie & the Yo-Yoz. The event was scheduled from 8 PM to midnight.

Persons in attendance told NIT that “police were showing up as some of the younger crowd started getting rowdy.” Some said that “heavy drinking” was taking place.  “We saw at least three” arrests, the source said.  “They had to stop the concert for a fight in the middle of a song.”

The Iowa State Patrol and Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs assisted Rockwell police at the scene of the event, which in recent years has been known for this behavior from some in attendance.

Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s deputies also responded to a report of an underage party near the event in downtown Rockwell. The officers located the party which was outside in the front yard and citations were issued for minor consumption.

Some of the arrests that took place were:

Tyler Eugene Arnburg, 19, of Clear Lake for public intoxication
Sarah Elizabeth Simon, 20, of Mason City for public intoxication
Douglas Frederick Feldman, 49, of Forest City for interference with official acts after an altercation
Brian David Hagy, 32, of Forest City for interference with official acts after an altercation
Matthew Scott Jackson, 21, of Plymouth for public intoxication
Cody Andrew Johnson, 18, of Clear Lake for a liquor violation

  1. “Most people just want to have some fun, leave them alone! The city of Rockwell needed these funds to survive! The cops have now ruined it.</i?

So you think it's proper to fund city government by illegally selling alcohol to minors?

So you think that the police we hire should ignore overt criminal behavior?

So having fun is more important to a community that upholding the law?

One hopes you are never put in charge of leading a community that will grow and thrive with theories like that.

I can see it now, we are selling pot, coke, and meth because we just want to have fun. What next? How low would you sink to fund your community? Prostitution? Meth production?

“But most people want to have fun.” Right!

    1. And I suppose you think it was OK to let Kaleb Tyler away with attempted murder and terrorism? and also to allow bumstead to speed at 90 mph? think about it before YOU complain

      1. No, I do not think the Tyler chap should have evaded prosecution. Just as I said no one should ever have the right to fire a gun down a street not knowing who may in a bullets path.

As far as the Governor, he should stand as a role model to the citizens he serves. It is only right.

        1. I guess I am trying to say is that Im tired of people always complaining about (a certain type of person). The low income, low on totem pole, people who have a hard time making ends meat. While nobody complains or does anything about the people with power or in charge getting away with milking the system or taking advantage of the hard working people of this country. everyone needs to be treated equal. However they are not.

        2. And that is a good message to talk about, equal under the law.

A good place to start, is our own community. While we may never agree one hundred percent on everything, at least we can talk about it.

Yet there are a few in this community, who think stifling public comment, either officially or otherwise, is proper and good.

That behavior has no place in a land where freedom is a critical foundation, and open speech is a fundamental right.

  2. It’s illegal to have any fun or to party in Iowa. When will you understand. We are all supposed to be miserable together and snitch on each other. It’s how they want us to live.

    1. If you don’t like it here go back to Mexico where you came from. See how long you last down there with your drugs.

        1. Not Polish dumb A##. I am of Mexican decent and we really dislike people like you who give us a bad name.

  3. If you have enough man power to where you can put 4-6-8-10-12 officers at a street dance with 300-500 people, than we have way to many cops!
I dont care if a 20 year old drinks a beer inside a fence ( or sitting at their own residence). They hurt knowone and are causing no problem.
Most of the cops there, used some common sense and left people alone, the 2 in the photo above, really thought they were saving the world.
Observer–J-walking is a crime also, shold we put a cop on every corner, at an average wage of about 60.000 a year to cover that as well?
Most people just want to have some fun, leave them alone! The city of Rockwell needed these funds to survive! The cops have now ruined it. Where are we going to make their $$$$ next year.
People can care for themselves, they dont need big brother looking over their shoulder every second.

    1. @Barney Fife-it is called a Nanny State. They are going to protect you from yourself even if it kills you and they will do that to for half a reason.

        1. Not a hyrocrite at all. I hate you damn druggy’s and would like nothing more than to put you all in jail. All you do is steal and wreck other peoples cars. You are worthless and you know it. Why don’t you try being legal for a change and see if you like it doper.

    2. You may think it is OK, however the law says no to a 20 year old drinking alcohol. In your own home, with your own children, you can do as you please. Even then, you risk violating law.

        1. If a person doed not understand the legal impact of such behaviors, perhaps they should revise parenting skills? Think of the kind of role model one becomes for their offspring if one ignores the laws. If dad does it, so can I. Or is it do as I say, not as I do?

No judgement, just offering observations of many situations like that. In this case, the young people got the idea that the behavior is OK. Society, through it’s laws say otherwise.

    3. And why is it necessary to drink to have a good time? Especially those under 21. You just can’t fix stupid I guess.

      1. I’ve been a subsciber for more than 6 months and I can’t seem to be able to read the full article either.

        1. I have repaired your subscription. You should have full access to the entire site again. I apologize for the issue.

  4. Cops way over the top! Think they have the caper of the year arresting 20 year olds drinking beer. People dont go there to watch the cops. This has been nothing more than a fund raiser for the police for many years. Was not well attended, people know the cops are there to find away to write a ticket. A few of the cops there understand there is no problem letting small towns celebrate. Others think they are the show. I would guess this was the last one. Cops were asked to observe and not hastle people, most could, but a couple of Barneys repeatedly waded into the crowd pulling people out to see if there was anyway they could write a ticket. A good lawyer with a camera would have a great case for at least improper search, if not abuse. So sad to watch them kill what used to be a good thing.

    1. Over the top? Enforcing laws is over the top? Do you also prescribe to the notion that there is real crime (real laws) and fake crime (fake laws)?

      1. then they need to make damn sure they stop all the bankers, lawyers, and firemen driving home after bewing in the bar. which they dont.

    2. @Barney Fife-Instead of coming down on the police for doing their job why don’t you try obeying the law. These young people know there are laws against underage drinking but decided to do it any way. I don’t feel sorry for them at all. With their lack of maturity they ruined this celebration for everyone else and for the town. They are the ones you should be pissed at. If they get drunk and drive (and they will) they just might run into you and your family and kill all of you. You probably wouldn’t like that would you?

      1. @LVS, you can’t fix stupid it’s impossible, people like Jesus and Barney think some laws are more important than others an should not be enforced, and when you question them on it, they resort to a childish level of insults, these are the types of people that probably smoke pot with their kids and host these parties for them as we’ll, it’s a waste of time trying to prove them wrong when they are to thick headed. I would save it for someone that can have a proper debate or a civilized argument.

  5. jojo1girl Replied:
“And Thank GOD no one killed or severely injured by a drunk driver on the way home!!!”
I remember having a discussion with the town banker years ago. We were talking about a well known farmer in town that ALWAYS drove home drunk, and the cops refused to do anything. It was the local joke in town. Pulled out of ditches ALOT, mail boxes replaces many times. You get the picture. What did the Banker say????
    “But he’s a good farmer”
Man if that didnt piss me off. another example of people with money, power or the right last name, getting away with breaking the law. Burns my ass more than a 4′ fire

  6. Boogie is in Garner the 13th as well…how come there are not that many problems over there as there are in Rockwell?

  7. Matt, Doesn’t look like this problem has been resolved on your web Site.

“This post is available for purchase.”

    1. There’s nothing wrong with the North End. They’ve got the liquor store across from the convenience store so you can get supplied before heading out on the trail. The trail used to go all the way North to the strip club. The North end has the freaks but you know where you stand. It’s all out in the open.

    1. Booze good? Why were those chaps arrested? Pot is bad because it is illegal.

If you love pot so much, move a country where it is legal.

        1. The only real reason it should be legal is for medicinal purposes, by injection. Or, prescribe Marinol, which is already on the market.

        2. It is not about practicing medicine, it is about eliminating the drugheads from those truly needing medicine. Most people who want pot legalized in some form desire people needing medical treatment to get it. They do not want recreational drugheads wandering our community and risking the safety of it’s citizens.

If all you want is your high, move to Sierra Leon.

        3. @Observer-let him try smoking that crap in Mexico and see what happens to him. He would be lucky to go to jail. They might just shoot him.

      1. “It is not about practicing medicine, it is about eliminating the drug heads from those truly needing medicine.”

And by you choosing who to eliminate equals practicing medicine. Are you really this stupid? Your logic is retarded.

  8. Just like every other small town gathering people having a good time but unlike mason city no scurvs and no meth heads no stabbing and no shooting

    1. And Thank GOD no one killed or severely injured by a drunk driver on the way home!!! However, there was fair share of fighting going on caused presumably by the drinking…

      1. A lot of people had sober drivers because of the known fact that all the cops would be there and if some people get into fist fights so be it I didn’t here any gun shots or see any knifes just old fashion fist fights
