FAYETTE COUNTY – A Mason City man’s car was destroyed after he struck a deer and rolled into a ditch.

On July 9th, 2023, at 10:37 AM, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a single vehicle accident in the 2000 block of Filmore Road. Upon investigation, it was learned that 19-year-old Aaron Michael Atkinson of Mason City was driving a 2016 Ford Escape (pictured, above, via Fayette sheriff) westbound on Filmore Road when a deer ran out into the roadway. Atkinson swerved to miss the deer, but was struck by it anyway, and lost control causing him to go into the ditch. The vehicle rolled over once before coming to rest.

No injuries were reported, but the vehicle was considered a total loss.

Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Wadena Fire and First Responders, and Elgin First Reponders.
