AMES – University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics ended the most recent fiscal year on a good financial note, hospital officials told state regents Wednesday during a meeting in Ames.
Hospital leaders had budgeted to end Fiscal Year 2012 with a 4 percent operating margin and actually finished the year on June 30 with a 4.3 percent operating margin, which was about $3.5 million more in operating income. The hospital’s total operating income for Fiscal Year 2012 was $47.1 million.
The financial performance was driven by growth in most areas, including emergency, inpatient and outpatient, Chief Financial Officer Ken Fisher said.
“You can see it in virtually every area of our organization,” he said, noting the hospital also did extremely well in “managing every cost that we could.”
