Kropf’s appeal bond rescinded and increased

Mason City – On Monday, August 13th, Assistant Chief Judge James M. Drew ruled on a motion filed Friday, August 10th, by Cerro Gordo County Assistant District Attorney Steven D. Tynan involving Jared Kropf.

In the motion Assistant District Attorney Steven D. Tynan motioned the court to rescind the $10,000 appeal bond posted by Clear Lake bonding agent Jim Finstad on July 30th and to increase the amount of the bond. The motion was filed after Kropf’s 2nd criminal charge since being released on the appeal bond less than two weeks prior.

The appeal bond had secured Kropf’s release from prison pending an appeal of his 5 year prison sentence after he plead guilty to a Class D felony count of willful injury causing bodily injury. Jared Kropf and his brother, Brandon Kropf, had been sentenced July 10th after voluntarily pleading guilty for the assaults against two men which caused one of the victims to be seriously injured requiring intensive care at St. Mary’s in Rochester after allegedly using bats and crowbars on April 3rd, 2011.

On Monday, August 13th, Assistant Chief Judge James M. Drew ordered the $10,000 surety bond posted by Clear Lake bonding agent Jim Finstad through Sun Surety Insurance Company be rescinded. Judge Drew also increased the bond requirement to $25,000 cash only in Kropf’s name only.  According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Inmate Population Report the bond must be posted during clerk of court hours only.

Since Jared’s release on appeal, July 30th, he has been charged with two separate criminal incidents. He was cited August 2nd by Mason City Police Department for interference with official acts. Following that arrest he posted a $300 surety bond and was released back to the streets.

Police again came across Jared Kropf the morning of August 10th after being called to an incident involving a vehicle that was stuck in some weeds at Big Blue. Jared was arrested at the scene for public intoxication and booked into the Cerro Gordo County Jail at 8:15 AM Friday where he has remained on $1,000 cash only bond.

Following Judge Drew’s order this afternoon Kropf’s status on the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Inmate Population Report has changed to, “awaiting transport to prison.”

SUBJECT IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY.

“Finally…some common sense justice!

Common sense has no place in a Justice system governed by law. A case depends upon the arguements of both the prosecution and defense. And only evidence offered by each is considered when applied to the decision of the Judge.

In this case, it appears that our Prosecutor put up a good case against yet another bond for Mr. Kropf.

You know what, you are absolutely right. Thank you for pointing that out. I was just so excited that someone actually did what they should for a change.

well at least that piece of shit and his brother are back in jail, but still yes, the same judge let him out and then maybe but I doubt he changed his mind, maybe the defense should stop giving him kick backs for letting them out

Thank you, Judge Drew! This guy has not learned his lesson and needs some serious counseling and rehab. He still think life revolves around him. Time for a big, long wake-up call.

AW! But he’s SUCH a good boy…NOT. Finally…some common sense justice! Thank you judge Drew! Next stop….PRISON. Bye-Bye.

Now that is good news. These criminals need to be kept off of the streets. So glad Judge Drew heard this case, instead of Judge Weiland!

Not so fast there buddy. Judge Drew is the one who dismissed a Class C felony count included in this case that could have netted lipstick boy in the pic here another 10 years. Judge Drew also released to convicted drug dealers after serving 3 months and 6 months respectively on 10 year prison terms in July.

Judge Drew is up for retention vote in November and wants to appear tough on crime.

Thanks for the clarification. That is good to know. Maybe all of the judges need to be voted out, and learn to serve the people rather than the criminals.
