CHARLES CITY – Young people at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City collected their pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters to buy insecticide-treated mosquito nets for children in Africa.

Students from this summer’s Vacation Bible School at St. John raised $502.93 to give to the ELCA Malaria Campaign. The ELCA Malaria Campaign funds programs that say, “enough is enough!” No child, no person, should die of a disease that is both preventable and treatable.

Charles City children from St. John partnered with ELCA to help African children who are most susceptible to the disease. The money raised by St. John VBS will purchase and distribute 50 treated mosquito nets for 50 children.

The Northeastern Iowa Synod is committed to raising $250,000 for this project by 2013 which will save 25,000 lives.

  1. Atleast they will say how much money they raised instead of some groups who raise money at bars and keep it secret.
