MASON CITY – On Monday, January 6th, 35-year-old James Lewis Whitehill was sentenced to three 5 year prison sentences to be served consecutively.
District Court Judge, Stephen P. Carroll sentenced Whitehill to 5 years each for violation of probation in a 3rd degree burglary conviction, a criminal mischief 2nd degree, and another 3rd degree burglary conviction.
Whitehill had received three 5 year suspended sentences with probation through a negotiated voluntary guilty plea in on January 31st, 2011 in the felony cases. Court records show a warrant was issued after the Iowa department of Corrections applied for a probation revocation hearing In December 2011.
Mason City Police captured Whitehill on Dec 30th after a standoff at the River City Apartments. An archive of that article can be read here. Whitehill was sentenced to 21 days in jail in that incident by Judge Carroll.
Court records indicate Whitehill has been convicted on numerous burglaries, assaults on private citizens, police, and family, possession meth making agents, and stolen cars during the past decade.
According to the Cerro Gordo County Jail Inmate Population Report Whitehill is awaiting transport to prison.
