MASON CITY – A dog was apparently beaten to death Wednesday evening at the hands of a Mason City man wielding a hammer, who was arrested and charged with several crimes.
According to Mason City police, on June 3, 2015 at about 9:21 PM, Mason City Police were called to the 1400 block of South Harding on a report of an injured dog. Upon arrival, officers located a boxer mix with head injuries. After further investigation, officers arrested 62-year-old George Harrington of Mason City for violations of animal codes; failure to have current city license (a simple misdemeanor), failure to have current rabies vaccination (a simple misdemeanor), and animal torture (an aggravated misdemeanor).
The dog was transported to a local veterinarian where it was euthanized due to injuries on its head caused from a hammer. Harrington was transported to the Cerro Gordo County jail and held on $2,000 bond.
This case was NOT done weeks ago. He just pled not guilty, according to the Globe. What say we don’t move on until we find out what he is found guilty of and what his punishment will be???
This story was “news” weeks ago. As LVS correctly states the issue has already been adjudicated. Shall we move on?

This man is truly a monster. I have known of him for years. He beat his ex wife and abused his kids. I beg anybody that’s knows anything going on in this house to call police and DHS. DHS did not help his kids, but his grand kids should not be there.

You seem to have knowledge of this scumbag. You say this isn’t the first animal he has killed do you mean that he has killed his pets before? If so, where did he dispose of them at? Did you witness this? Are you a neighbor or do you live near by? If he has done this before why didn’t you contact the police? People who do this type of cruelty usually end up hurting people. $2,000 bond means $200 and he is back on the street. He was probably out before this story hit and the dog is dead.

i do live next him. I asked for help many times.Police would do nothing .Not only his animals are being abuse but is grandchildren to. Their is a baby in this mess. . i am scared to death to even going my door.. i wish the whole family would disappear. leave the children with family that love them and not abuse them. You are right, that truck would never pass a DOT inspection and should be taken off the road. This guy is a junker, (scrap metal,) I don’t know him personally but can’t make much money from what I see.

Watch them let him plead this down to some simple misdemeanor like they let the guy who threw Winnie into the river do. He needs to be charged with a federal felony so he is in the FBI dangerous offender registry.
Almost certainly a plea deal for this one. It’d be great to see the county prosecutors actually go to trial on something as heinous as this.
