MASON CITY – In a surprise move, Scott Tornquist is resigning from the Mason City council, effective at midnight.

Here is Mr. Tornquist’s message that he posted to his website, TornquistforRiverCity.com:

Council Colleagues, Mayor, City Staff, Friends and Citizens of Mason City-

After a great deal of reflection, my wife Patti & I have decided to embark on a new journey.

Twenty-two years ago a job opportunity brought us to Mason City. It did not take long for us to realize what a special community this was and is, and many times over the years we have made a conscious decision to stay and call Mason City home. This was a great place to raise our family. We are proud of the values that this community helped us instill in our boys, the education they received, and whatever the future may hold for them.

Patti and I have chosen to simplify our lives and move our home to Indianapolis. This enables us to be closer to family, both immediate and extended, a benefit we both highly value.

My family’s lives have been enriched by the people we have been pleased to call friends and neighbors. Over the years we have called Mason City home, Patti and I have worked to try to give back to show our appreciation for this wonderful community. We hope that in some way we may have touched your life as you have touched ours.

Though it is difficult to leave, we are excited about this new season in our life together. This is an exciting time in the life of the community as well, and great days are ahead. The community is in good hands, and I look forward to watching Mason City realize it’s potential.

Since Patti and I have purchased a house in Indianapolis, and closing and the move will soon be upon us, it has become necessary for me to resign my Council position. Please accept my resignation, effective as of midnight tonight.

I want to thank the community for the opportunity to serve in a number of ways over the years, not the least of which has been as an At-Large Council person. Our time here has been a blessing.

Highest Regards and Best Wishes to Each of You,
Scott Tornquist

I can smell the stink in Indy already.Gee now its time for a real citizen of Mason City to stand up instead of these Johnny come lately to party so to speak types.Up on the perch kind of people we don’t anymore of.

I feel sorry for Indianapolis.

Thank you.

BA-BYE!!!

Now if only Marinos would take up residency in Greece and resign also.

So he is leaving after helping to destroy our town Just like rats leaving A sinking ship. I wonder which lackey the mayor will pick to replace him.

personally don’t know the man, probably a nice guy. But its ALWAYS amazing to see folks that love and proclaim how great Mason City is, pack up and flee. I doubt there will be big tears in his eye when he sees Mason City in his rear view mirror

Hallelujah!!!!!!, wonder you the replacement lackey will be…

Sorry, I was so ecstatic I typed you instead of who….

Glad hes gone, just wish the mayor would go with him. Let,s appoint Max for his open spot. I agree let the games begin. There is always light at the end of our tunnel. Get someone with balls to stand up to our mayor. MAX< MAX< MAX MAX

Because Max? is the answer. Dear God

Let the games begin!
